Iran launched more than 100 drones toward Israel in retaliation for airstrikes that targeted facilities inside Iranian territory, which resulted in the deaths of several senior military commanders.
Israeli military spokesperson Effie Defrin told CNBC that air defense systems are operating at full capacity to intercept the aerial threats.
Defrin added that around 200 Israeli fighter jets participated in the operation, which targeted nearly 100 sites inside Iran, noting that military operations are still ongoing.
This escalation comes amid growing fears of a broader conflict in a region that serves as one of the world’s most vital energy corridors, heightening uncertainty in global markets and fueling volatility in oil prices, currencies, and safe-haven assets.
The strike also comes just days ahead of the sixth round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington in a step that threatens a diplomatic resolution.
