Trump cuts short G7 visit to monitor tensions in Middle East

President Donald Trump is cutting short his attendance at the G7 summit in Canada, the White House said Monday night, citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X, “Because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.”

This came after Trump had written on his Truth Social account, "Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!"

A White House official told CNN that Trump's post was intended to make it urgent for Iran to come to the negotiating table.

For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Trump informed the G7 leaders that talks were underway to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
