US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump informed his senior aides that he approved plans to attack Iran, but postponed the final decision until it is clear whether Tehran will abandon its nuclear program, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The sources indicated that the Fordo facility, an underground uranium enrichment facility in Iran, is among the potential targets for the US.
The recent Israeli strikes have not yet targeted the Fordo facility as it is located deep beneath a mountain, and military experts consider it beyond the reach of all weapons except certain high-yield bombs.
In response to a reporter's question earlier on Wednesday about whether he had decided to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, Trump said “he might, maybe not”, but stressed the need for Iran's “unconditional surrender”.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei affirmed that his country will not surrender, warning that any US military intervention will have “irreparable damage”.
