Saudi Arabia’s rail sector recorded a remarkable performance in Q2 2025, transporting over 36.5 million passengers — an increase of one million compared to Q1 2025, according to the Transport General Authority (TGA).
On an annual basis, the number of passengers surged by 290% (around 27.2 million) for Q2 2025, Argaam data showed.
The authority noted that urban rail networks witnessed significant growth, serving more than 33.8 million passengers during Q2 2025, which reflects the robust demand seen in recent months.
Riyadh Metro topped the list with over 23.6 million passengers, while the automated people mover (APM) system at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah carried over 7.76 million passengers.
The APM at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh transported more than 512,000 passengers.
Additionally, over 2.67 million passengers used intercity trains in Q2 2025, up 10%. Further, more than four million tons of goods and 232,000 containers were transported via the Kingdom-wide railway network.
