Trump shortens deadline for Russia to end war in Ukraine to 15 days

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would give his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin less than two weeks to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine, or Moscow would be subject to severe tariffs.
 
Trump said he would give Putin 10 to 12 days from Monday, he said at a press conference in Scotland on the sidelines of his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
 
“No reason in waiting,” Trump said of the shorter timeline. “We just don’t see any progress being made.”
 
Trump previously gave his Russian counterpart a 50-day deadline, originally scheduled to expire in early September, but indicated on Monday that things were taking too long.
 
“I'm disappointed in President Putin,” he said, speaking alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of their meeting in Scotland. “I'm going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to a lesser number.”
 
On July 14, the US president said that buyers of Russian exports would face tariffs of "almost 100%" if a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine was not reached by September.
 
"I would have said five times we would have had a deal. I've spoken to President Putin a lot," Trump told reporters.
 
"Then Putin fired missiles at a city like Kyiv, killing a lot of people in a nursing home or wherever, and there were bodies all over the street,” Trump added.
