Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center (RIPC) announced that the Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Code will come into effect starting tomorrow, Aug. 7.

The code will serve as a unified regulatory and technical guide for infrastructure projects, and as a reference for government and service agencies, contractors, consultants, and quality control laboratories, the state-run SPA reported.

The code will provide access to the technical and regulatory requirements necessary for planning, coordinating, executing, and monitoring infrastructure work in projects related to telecommunications, energy, water, sewage, roads, and similar sectors.

The code applies to public and private sector projects, including major developments across the Riyadh region, encompassing the capital city, governorates, and rural areas.

The code aims to enhance inter-agency coordination, unify standards, and improve the quality and safety of implementation. It addresses all stages of the project lifecycle - from planning and obtaining the necessary permits, to notifications of commencement, execution, traffic management plans, safety and environmental procedures, and final site closure.

The code includes numerous regulations related to safety and barriers, licensing, execution quality, site cleanliness, signage and information boards, dust and waste control, and ensuring accessibility to homes and public facilities.

The code is designed to improve work quality and compliance levels, enhance on-site conditions, and ensure the safety of residents, pedestrians, and workers. It also seeks to facilitate project execution without disrupting daily life.

It mandates that contractors provide safe pedestrian pathways, coordinate traffic movement, secure project sites around the clock, install standardized identification signage, use warning lighting, clean the site daily, and regularly update permits.

According to data available with Argaam, the Saudi Cabinet, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, approved the establishment of the Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center (RIPC) in June 2023.
