Maaden subsidiary inks power purchase agreement with Emerge to supply Al Baitha bauxite mine with clean, renewable energy over the next 30 years
Under the agreement, Emerge will develop a solar power plant to supply Al Baitha bauxite mine with clean, renewable energy for the next 30 years, according to a company statement.
The new off-grid solar plant will rely on photovoltaic technology with a peak capacity of 8 MW, supported by a 30-MWh battery storage system to ensure the continuous generation of solar power.
In addition, the plant will provide uninterrupted electricity around the clock. The project is expected to generate around 17,300 MWh of electricity annually.
The project will contribute to reducing approximately 13,800 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, equivalent to removing more than 3,000 cars from the roads annually.
The facility will meet nearly all of Al Baitha Bauxite Mine’s energy needs from renewable sources, marking a significant step toward enhancing sustainable mining practices.
Emerge will deliver a full turnkey solution for the project, managing all aspects, including financing, design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance.
The company noted that this initiative represents an important step towards supporting Saudi Arabia’s energy transition efforts, in line with Vision 2030 targets to cut carbon emissions and promote sustainable industrial growth.
