Container handling up 9.5% to 750,600 TEUs in August: MAWANI

Saudi ports reported a 9.52% increase in cargo throughput tonnage to 750,630 tons in August, compared to 685.410 tons in the same period a year ago.

 

In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that transshipment containers were up by more than 14.68% to 189,410, compared to 165,160 TEUs a year earlier.

 

Outbound containers rose by 7.95% to 279,550 in August, from 258,960 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also increased by 7.80% year-on-year (YoY) to 281,680, compared to 261,300 containers in August 2024.

 

The maritime traffic saw a rise of 13.16% YoY to 1,120 ships in August. The number of passengers also rose by 70.10% to 85,640 last month, compared to 50,350 last year. Meanwhile, the number of cars increased by 4.27% YoY to 107,830 for the same month.

 

The total handled cargo, which includes solid bulk cargo and liquid bulk cargo, fell by 12.44% to 20.20 million ton, compared to 23.07 million tons in the same period a year earlier. The general cargo reached 1.08 million tons in August, while dry and liquid bulk cargo reached 4.58 million and 14.54 million tons,

 

Ports received 494,950 livestock heads for the same month, up 17.16% compared to 422,450 in the same month of 2024.
