The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing (MOMAH) announced the updated requirements for regulating spatial planning for water service provision activities.

These requirements include various activities, such as desalination plants and water purification plants. This ensures that they are regulated within a clear regulatory framework that takes into account environmental and urban dimensions, enhances compliance with regulations, and increases the efficiency of facilities associated with this vital activity, the ministry said in a statement.

These requirements were prepared in cooperation with relevant authorities and are based on modern technical and regulatory standards that take into account the specificity of the activity and its location within the urban fabric of cities. They also emphasize the importance of integrating operational, technical, and environmental aspects to ensure the provision of efficient, safe, and high-quality water services, it added.

The ministry also indicated that this step aims to improve the business environment, encourage investment, and raise compliance standards. It will contribute to improving the quality of facilities and services provided to individuals and society, and achieve a balance between urban development requirements and protecting the urban fabric of Saudi cities.
