US crude oil inventories grew for the second straight week, signaling slower energy consumption in the US.

According to a report released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), crude oil inventories gained three million barrels in the Sept. 5-ended week to 424.6 million in total.

This came against expectations of a 1.9-million-barrel drop.

Likewise, gasoline stocks advanced by 1.5 million barrels, with distillate stocks, which includes diesel and heating oil, also up by 4.7 million barrels.
