Umm Al Qura for Development & Construction Co., owner and developer of Masar Destination in Makkah, in collaboration with Electromin, a provider of smart mobility and clean energy solutions, launched today the first electric transit network of its kind across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, in presence of some officials.
In a statement, the company said the new system is the first in the region to deploy BRT technology with fully electric buses, offering users a safe and sustainable transport experience.
The service route extends approximately four kilometers, connecting the Haramain High Speed Railway Station to the Grand Mosque, and includes two main stations and 11 intermediate stops distributed along the route. The buses are expected to travel more than 15.8 million kilometers and contribute to a reduction of approximately 31.5 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions compared to conventional buses. The network is designed to transport more than 125 million passengers.
The launch of the first phase of the electric bus network marks a key milestone in the integrated destination’s development, one that supports the establishment of a sustainable transportation system throughout.
