Commerce Ministry evaluates auto dealers, electronic distributors, e-commerce players

The Ministry of Commerce announced the results of three performance evaluations covering auto dealers, distributors of electrical and electronic appliances, and e-commerce players.

In a statement issued today, Jan. 29, the ministry explained that this second phase of assessments is aimed at elevating service quality, ensuring facility compliance with approved standards, and enhancing the overall consumer experience.

The performance evaluation of auto dealers covered 24 local players, based on four primary criteria: inventory and booking data, after-sales services, compliance levels, and commitment to consumer rights. These were measured via 16 metrics, most notably the availability of high-demand vehicles, waiting lists, maintenance duration, and spare parts availability.

Meanwhile, the assessment of electrical and electronic appliances distributors included 18 players, and was measured against 11 criteria. Key focus areas included commitment to consumer rights; after-sales and maintenance services; and the efficiency of client complaint handling. This move is designed to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions and foster healthy competition among distributors.

As for e-commerce players, the ministry evaluated 220 online stores based on 10 criteria, including the official documentation of the Saudi Business Center registeration on their respective platforms; clear exchange, return and refund policies; transparent shipping and delivery policies; consumer rights and obligations; client complaint handling; and visible “Contact Us” options.

The ministry noted that these standards were developed in partnership with consumers and the private sector—represented by national committees and distributors—to address sector-specific challenges.

Following the first phase results that were released last year, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to publishing these ratings to enhance transparency and empower consumers with reliable data.
