LCGPA updates Coordination Council’s strategy, expands membership

The Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA) announced the update of the Local Content Coordination Council’s strategy for the next five years.
 

The move aims to strengthen the council’s role as a national umbrella that brings together leading entities from major national companies and relevant government bodies to develop local content, enhance integration between the public and private sectors, and expand the scope of member sectors to include oil and gas, electricity, chemicals, mining, real estate, telecommunications and technology, transport, utilities, and others, the authority said in a statement.
 

The update includes defining a forward-looking vision and methodology, introducing new objectives and performance indicators to measure impact, and launching initiatives to achieve strategic targets. It also includes restructuring the council by adding specialized committees focused on improving policy efficiency and effectiveness, developing supply chains, raising awareness, and building capabilities, it added.
 

According to the statement, the council comprises members from the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Federation of Saudi Chambers, Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Aramco), Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC), Saudi Energy, Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden), stc Group, and Saudia Group.
 

The updated strategy also saw the addition of new members to the council, including Saudi Civil Aviation Holding Co. (MATARAT Holding), National Water Co., NEOM, ROSHN Group, and Saudi Railway Co. (SAR). In addition, several companies joined at the level of specialized committees, such as Sela Co, National Unified Procurement Co. (NUPCO), Alat Technologies, Ceer National Automotive Co., Almarai, Alfanar, Bahri, Nesma & Partners, and Saudi Public Transport Co. (SAPTCO).
 

“Since its establishment in 2019, the council has contributed to unifying efforts to develop local content and enhance the awareness and maturity of private sector companies. The cumulative spending on local content within the procurement of member companies reached approximately SAR 683 billion during the period 2019–2023. It has also helped implement 10 strategic initiatives and develop around 461 investment opportunities valued at over SAR 640 billion, in line with Saudi Vision 2030,” said the authority’s CEO Abdulrahman Al-Semari.
