Tadweeer announces joining GCOM

The company said the registration recognizes the environmental impact generated through its daily operations by reducing or avoiding carbon emissions through waste recycling, instead of conventional disposal methods or the production of new raw materials.

Tadweeer’s acceptance into GCOM enables this environmental impact to be measured, verified and officially recognized, potentially allowing it to be converted into commercially tradable carbon credits and carbon guarantees in the future.

The company noted that the value it generates extends beyond the sale of recycled materials and products, as it could create an additional revenue stream from carbon credits and guarantees issued in the future.

This reflects the company’s ability to maximize returns from the same operating activity by turning previously untapped environmental outcomes into economic value.

In the next phase, Tadweeer will complete the mechanism's requirements, including compiling operational data, preparing technical reports, calculating avoided or reduced emissions, and submitting them for review and verification before carbon credits and guarantees can be issued.

Carbon credits and guarantees could be marketed and sold in carbon markets to entities seeking to offset part of their emissions, including companies operating in the energy, aviation, petrochemicals, cement, mining and heavy industries, as well as businesses with sustainability and carbon reduction targets.

Tadweeer said the registration does not mean carbon credits have been issued or that it will generate immediate financial returns. Instead, it marks the first step in a technical and regulatory process that could eventually allow the company to issue and sell carbon credits upon completing the required reporting, review, verification and approval procedures.

The registration marks a strategic milestone, enabling Tadweeer to capitalize on the environmental impact of its core business of recycling electronic waste, electrical waste and metals by converting that impact into measurable, verifiable and certifiable value.

It strengthens its position in the sustainability and carbon markets, making it the first company in Saudi Arabia to be accepted into the mechanism.

Tadweeer affirmed that it will disclose any material developments related to the process, including the issuance of carbon credits or guarantees and any associated financial impact, in accordance with applicable regulations.
