Abu Dhabi developer Eagle Hills and UAE real estate investor Mohamed Alabbar have signed a $3 billion deal with the Serbian government to build the Belgrade Waterfront project, Reuters has reported.
The Dubai-style riverside development, constructed in the Serbian capital, will consist of residential and office buildings, hotels, the Balkan’s biggest shopping mall and a 200-meter tall tower over two million square meters of land.
Serbia will pay for the infrastructure work of the site, estimated to cost EUR 300 million, according to the agreement.
The timeline for the project’s completion has been set at 30 years.
The move marks the UAE firm’s first development in Eastern Europe. Many in Serbia have already come forward to criticize the plan.
