Dow Jones closes higher but Nasdaq loses over 600 points
The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.65%, or 289 points, to 44,713 points.
Meanwhile, the S&P 500 Index decreased 1.45%, or 88 points, to 6,012 points, and the Nasdaq Composite declined over 3%, or 612 points, to 19,341 points.
S&P 500 Information Technology slumped 5.6%, while chip stocks, including Nvidia, Broadcom and AMD, lost 16.9%, 17.4% and 6.35% respectively..
As for the European indices, the STOXX Europe 600 remained flat at 529.6 points after touching 525.52 pts, amid 3.25% losses from technology stocks.
The FTSE 100 remained flat at 8,503 points, the DAX 40 dipped 0.55% to 21,282 points, and the CAC 40 lost 0.25% to 7,906 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 dropped 0.9%, to 39,565 points. TOPIX advanced 0.25% to 2,758 points.
In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for March 2025 delivery retreated 1.8%, or $1.42, to $77.08 per barrel.
Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for March delivery fell 2%, or $1.49, to $73.17 per barrel.
As for gold, futures prices for the yellow metal for February delivery inched down 1.45%, or $40.5, to $2,738 per ounce.
