Nasdaq, S&P 500 decline for 3rd straight session
US stock indices mostly declined on Monday, as market concerns grew over the trade war led by President Donald Trump against the United States’ trading partners.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.1%, or 33 points, to 43,461. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 decreased 0.5%, or 29 points, to 5,983, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.2%, or 237 points, to 19,286. Both indices fell for the third straight session.
As for the European indices, the STOXX Europe 600 fell 0.1% to 553.3 points as the index losses were offset by the increase in utilities and auto stocks.
The FTSE 100 remained unchanged at 8,658 points, the DAX 40 rose 0.6% to 22,425 points, and the CAC 40 edged down 0.8% at 8,090 points.
Japan’s markets were closed on the occasion of the Emperor's Birthday. Trading is set to resume as usual on Tuesday.
In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for April 2025 delivery inched up 0.45%, or $0.35, to $74.78 per barrel.
Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for April delivery rose 0.45%, or $0.30, to $70.70 per barrel.
As for gold, futures prices for the yellow metal for April delivery inched up 0.35%, or $10, to a record of $2,963.2 per ounce.
