US equities close flat, Dow Jones sole loser
Most of US stocks ended Friday on a flat note, but recorded marginal weekly losses as investors remain cautious about trade tensions despite the relative calm witnessed by markets recently.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.29%, or 119 points, to 41,249 points, recording a weekly loss of 0.16%.
The S&P 500 Index remained unchanged at 5,659 points despite retreating 0.47% during the week.
Likewise, the Nasdaq Composite kept flat at 17,928 points, posting a weekly loss of 0.27%.
As for the European indices, the STOXX Europe 600 added 0.45% to 537.96 points, posting marginal gains of 0.12%.
The FTSE 100 inched up 0.25% to 8,554 points. The CAC 40 advanced 0.65% to 7,743 points, with the DAX 40 rising by 0.65% to 23,499 points, while
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 jumped 1.55% to 37,503 points, recording weekly gains of 1.85% after touching its highest level since March 27 at 37,557.
TOPIX surged nearly 1.3% to 2,773 points, extending its uptrend for the 11th consecutive session. This marked the longest streak of gains since October 2017. The index recorded a weekly rise of 1.7%.
Oil posted weekly gains of over 4%, with Brent crude futures for July delivery rising 1.70%, or $1.07, to settle at $63.91 a barrel.
US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for June delivery also gained 1.85%, or $1.11, to end the session at $61.02 a barrel.
As for gold, June futures for the yellow metal climbed 1.1% to close at $3,344 an ounce, extending their weekly gains to 3.1%.
