Dow Jones hits record high for 4th session, posts weekly rise
US stocks showed mixed performance on Friday despite the Congress failure to pass a budget to end a government shutdown.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.51%, or 238 points, to end at a record high for the fourth straight session at 46,758, recording a weekly rise of 1.10%.
The S&P 500 Index was steady at 6,715 points, maintaining weekly gains of 1.10%.
Conversely, the Nasdaq Composite fell by around 0.28%, or 63 points, to 22,780 points. The technology index, however, recorded weekly gains of 1.32%.
As for the European indices, the STOXX Europe 600 edged up 0.5% to a record of 570,45 points, posting a weekly rise of 2.85%.
Closing at a record high, the FTSE 100 inched up 0.65% to 9,491 points. The DAX 40 eased 0.2% to 24,378 points, while the CAC 40 advanced 0.3% to 8,081 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 jumped 1.85% to 45,769 points. The index recorded a weekly rise of 0.9%. Similarly, TOPIX climbed 1.35% to 3,129 points, but posted a weekly drop of nearly 1.8%.
On the oil market, December Brent crude futures rose 0.66%, or 42 cents, to $64.53 a barrel, though the benchmark ended the week down 8%.
November US WTI crude contracts gained 0.66%, or 40 cents, to $60.88 a barrel, trimming their weekly losses to about 7.4%.
As for gold, December futures climbed 1%, or $40.8, to $3,908.90 an ounce, posting a 2.62% weekly gain and marking a record close for the 41st time in 2025.
