US stocks close higher, Dow Jones recovers losses
US stocks ended higher on Oct. 15 as investor sentiment improved following strong bank earnings, which helped offset concerns about the escalating trade war and the ongoing government shutdown.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average remained unchanged at 46,253 points at the end of a volatile session, during which it traded between a range of 46,693 points and 46,027 points.
The S&P 500 edged up 0.40%, or 26 points, to end at 6,671 points, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.66%, or 148 points, to 22,670 points.
Stoxx Europe 600 added 0.55% to 567 points, amid mixed performance across major sectors and stock exchanges.
France’s CAC 40 advanced 2% to 8,077 points, and Germany’s DAX fell 0.25% to 24,181 points, while the UK’s FTSE 100 shed 0.30% to 9,424 points.
In Japan, Nikkei 225 surged 1.75% to 47,672 points, while TOPIX rose 1.6% to 3,183 points.
Brent crude futures for December delivery retreated 0.77%, or $0.48, to settle at $61.91 per barrel, while US WTI crude for November delivery decreased 0.73%, or $0.43, to $58.27 per barrel.
Gold futures for December delivery gained 0.91%, or $38.2, to settle at $4,201.60 per ounce, marking the 47th record close for the most actively traded contract in 2025.
