Dow Jones closes at record high above 48,000 points
US stock indices ended mixed on Nov. 12, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded an all-time closing high as markets awaited the House vote on the temporary budget bill approved by the Senate, which could end the government shutdown this week.
At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.68%, or 326 points, to 48,254 points, marking a new record close.
The broader S&P 500 index remained stable at 6,850 points, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.26%, or 61 points, to 26,406 points.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.71% to 584.23 points, marking its third consecutive session of gains and closing at a new record high.
UK’s FTSE 100 advanced 0.12% to 9,911 points, while Germany’s DAX added 1.22% to 24,381 points, and France’s CAC 40 gained 1% to 8,241 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index inched up 0.43% to close at 51,063 points, while the broader Topix index increased 0.15% to 3,359 points.
As for oil, Brent crude futures for January delivery rose 3.76%, or $2.45, to settle at $62.71 per barrel.
US Nymex crude futures for December delivery fell 4.18%, or $2.55, to $58.49 per barrel.
Meanwhile, gold futures for December delivery climbed 2.36%, or $97.3, to $4,213.60 per ounce.
