Nasdaq closes at record high for second straight session
US stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, while the Nasdaq Composite hit a record high for the second straight session as investors assessed President Donald Trump’s comments on the war in the Middle East.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.36%, or 185 points, to 51,863 points.
The broader S&P 500 was little changed at 7,764 points, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.45% to a fresh record close of 27,244 points.
The Stoxx Europe 600 edged up 0.15% to 642 points, supported by gains in the technology and financial services sectors.
The UK’s FTSE 100 fell 0.30% to 10,708 points, while Germany’s DAX was unchanged at 25,578 points. France’s CAC 40 rose 0.20% to 8,154 points.
Japanese stocks were closed for a public holiday through Wednesday, with the Tokyo Stock Exchange shut for Respect for the Aged Day and the Autumnal Equinox.
Oil futures also declined, with Brent crude for November delivery falling 1.1%, or $1.09, to $99.25 a barrel.
US Nymex crude for October delivery fell 1.24%, or $1.19, to $94.59 a barrel.
Gold futures for September delivery declined 0.16%, or $6.90, to $4,338.90 an ounce.
What does this mean? Wall Street received a boost from lower oil prices, along with gains in artificial intelligence-related stocks following Trump’s comments that the US would continue to support emerging technologies.
