Industry Ministry kicks off bidding for 12 building material quarry licenses in Jeddah

The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources kicked off bidding for 12 building material quarries licenses in the new Jeddah crushers complex, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The ministry pointed out that the offered licenses include five for gravels, and seven for backfills, noting that the bidding phase extends from Jan. 30 until Feb. 16.

The ministry aims at regulating the bidding procedures, enhancing transparency and fairness in offering mining competitions, in addition to supporting investors and promoting investment in mining sector. It also seeks to encourage national industries and contribute to the local content development.

Further, the ministry added that announcing the competition and clarifying its conditions, requirements, results of qualification and names of winners can be found on the ministry's online licensing platform, Taadin. It affirmed that competitors will be qualified based on the announced requirements and conditions.

Bidders are required to enclose the required documents as per the qualification criteria and conditions through Taadeen platform, from Jan. 30 to Feb. 16.

The bidding phases include confirming the receipt of bidding qualification requirements within the due period, and then enlisting the names of qualified competitors to enter the auction.

This will be followed by launching the bidding for the 12 licenses, and then finally announcing the results and names of the winning companies.

The ministry indicated that the complex geological nature can be divided into two parts, a northern part and a central-and-southern part.

The northern part is a series of low-to-medium-height hills and consists of conglomerate sedimentary (concrete) rocks and contains concrete and pebbles of different sizes and types.

It is surmounted by sediments belonging to the Tertiary Era and composed of volcanic rocks such as andesite and porphyry rocks.

The central-and-southern part is a series of low-to-medium-height hills, geologically affiliated to Daghbag. It consists of massive diorite rocks, cut by andesite rock cutters.
