Abdulrahman Al Samari, CEO of the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA), said Saudi Arabia’s local content share in government procurement hit nearly 47% in 2024, surpassing the 45% target.

The goal is to reach 50% in 2025, with long-term ambitions of 70%, Al Samari told Argaam on the sidelines of the third edition of the Local Content Award ceremony.

Work is underway on several strategic metrics, including tracking government regulatory compliance and cutting import dependence, according to the top executive.

By the end of 2024, around 1,200 products were tallied on the authority’s Mandatory List of National Products. The plan is to add over 400 more in 2025, pushing the total beyond 1,500, the CEO further stated.

Al Samari stressed the need for cooperation between government bodies and the private sector to hit national targets. He highlighted focus on security-critical sectors such as pharmaceuticals, desalination, and logistics, especially amid large-scale projects like the land bridge and the Saudi railway network development.

He also noted growing attention to promising sectors such as entertainment, tourism, and sports, with efforts to partner with industry leaders to boost their local content contribution.

The third Local Content Award, according to Al Samari, is deemed a strategic initiative aimed at driving broader use of local goods and services, reflecting growing support for the private sector and the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.
