Abdullah Al Othaim Markets Co. opened five new branches in Q1 2025, three in Saudi Arabia and two in Egypt, according to its Q1 investor presentation.

 

The total store count reached 458 by the end of the quarter, covering 700,000 square meters across Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The company operates 399 retail stores in Saudi Arabia with a total area of 664,000 sqm and 59 branches in Egypt spanning 36,000 sqm. Retail sales contributed 94% of total sales in both countries during Q1 2025.

 

It added that wholesale branches in Saudi Arabia remained at 12 in Q1 2025, with a combined area of 20,000 sqm. These contributed 6% to total sales in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as shown in the table below:

The number of supermarket branches operated in Saudi Arabia reached 309 in Q1 2025, while the number of corner branches totaled 83.

Overall, sales grew 3% year-on-year (YoY) by the end of Q1 2025, primarily due to the opening of new branches, improved customer experience, and better product availability.

 

Additionally, the company indicated that revenue from leasing activities fell by 1% to SAR 27 million in Q1 2025 from SAR 27.3 million in Q1 2024.

 

Iktissab program customers contributed 86.6% to total retail sales, while the retail basket size decreased by 3.7% by the end of 2024.

 

Al Othaim’s Q1 2025 profit fell 34% to SAR 76.4 million from SAR 115.5 million in Q1 2024, according to Argaam data.
