Saudi ports reported a 13% rise in cargo throughput tonnage to 720,700 tons in May 2025, compared to 639,700 tons in the same period a year ago.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said outbound containers rose by 12.89% to 149,100 in May, from 132,100 in the prior-year period.
The number of inbound containers also increased by 15.84% to 292,200, compared to 252,270 in May 2024.
Transshipment containers were up 9.38% to 279,300, compared to 255,400 TEUs in May 2024.
The general cargo reached 935,900 tons in May, while dry and liquid bulk cargo reached 5.06 million and 15.34 million tons, respectively.
Ports received 1.64 livestock heads for the same month, up 61.22% compared to 1.01 million in the same month of 2024.
The maritime traffic saw a rise of 9.39% year-on-year (YoY) to 1,083 ships in May.
The number of passengers also jumped 68.15% to 95,200 last month, compared to 56,600 last year. Meanwhile, the number of cars increased by 13.09% YoY to 84,350 for the same month.
