The number of Americans filing new applications for jobless benefits decreased by more than projected in the week ended June 28, amid continued decline in layoffs despite uncertainty about trade.
Labor Department data released today showed jobless claims declined by 4,000 to 233,000 applications, the lowest level since May 17.
It was expected to reach 240,000 applications, from the previous week’s reading, which was revised upward by 1,000 to 237,000 applications.
In addition, the four-week moving average for new claims, a better measure of labor market trends as it irons out weekly fluctuations, saw a 3,750 decrease to 241,500 applications, from the previous week's revised average of 245,250.
