Fed must cut rates, says Trump

US President Donald Trump continued to harshly criticize Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for not cutting interest rates since the beginning of the year.

 

In a new post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday, Trump described Powell a “stubborn fool, adding that he must substantially cut interest rates.

 

“If he continues to refuse, the board should assume control, and do what everyone knows has to be done!”, Trump added.

 

These criticisms come amid growing concerns that Powell could be dismissed before his term ends in May 2026 — especially following accusations from Trump and members of his administration regarding the alleged mismanagement of the Fed’s headquarters renovation project.
