Trump calls on Intel CEO to resign; shares drop 4.5%

07/08/2025 Argaam

US President Donald Trump called for the immediate resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan in a post on his Truth Social platform.

"The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The demand follows questions raised earlier this week by Republican Senator Tom Cotton over Tan’s ties to Chinese firms, as well as references to a prior criminal case involving Cadence Design Systems, where Tan served as CEO until 2021.

Reuters reported that Cotton sent a letter to Intel’s chairman expressing “concern about the security and integrity of Intel's operations and its potential impact on US national security.”

In reaction to the controversy, Intel shares dropped 4.55% in premarket trading to $19.49 as of 3:03 p.m. Mecca time.
