Container handling grows 12% to 723,000 TEUs in July: MAWANI

Saudi ports reported a 12% increase in cargo throughput tonnage to 722,500 tons in July, compared to the same period a year ago.

 

In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that transshipment containers were up by more than 35% to 175,700, compared to 129,790 TEUs a year earlier.

 

Meanwhile, outbound containers rose by 13% to above 275,000 in July, while the number of inbound containers increased to 271,740, compared to 271,470 in July 2024.

 

The total cargo handled, which includes solid bulk cargo and liquid bulk cargo, rose by 3% to 212 million ton, compared to 20.6 million tons in the same period a year earlier.

 

Ports received 582,700 livestock heads for the same month, up 13% compared to 514.,860 in the same month of 2024.

 

The maritime traffic saw a rise of 12% YoY to 1,017 ships in July. The number of passengers also rose by 42% to 73,950 last month, compared to 52,190 last year. Meanwhile, the number of cars decreased by 23% YoY to 69,970 for the same month.
