Handled cargo up 8.6% to 22.5M tons in September: MAWANI

The total handled cargo in Saudi ports, which includes solid bulk cargo and liquid bulk cargo, rose by 8.6% to 22.52 million ton in September, compared to 20.74 million tons in the same period a year earlier.
 

In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that the general cargo reached 1.22 million tons last month, while dry and liquid bulk cargo reached 5.7 million and 15.6 million tons, respectively.
 

The maritime traffic saw a rise of 1.11% year-on-year (YoY) to 1,001 ships in September. The number of passengers also rose by 58.6% to 71,400 last month, compared to 45,000 last year.
 

Meanwhile, the number of cars decreased by 20.1% YoY to 75,600 for the same month. Ports received 285,700 livestock heads for the same month, down 17.1% compared to 344,400 in the same month of 2024.
 

Saudi ports also reported a 2.75% decline in cargo throughput tonnage to 654.870 tons in September, compared to 673,370 tons in the same period a year ago.
 

Outbound containers fell by 7.1% to 237,350 in September, from 255,610 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also decreased by 3% YoY to 250,730, compared to 258,520 containers in September 2024.
 

Transshipment containers were up 4.74% YoY to 166,790, compared to 159,240 TEUs in the same period a year ago.

According to Argaam's data, Saudi ports reported a 9.52% increase in cargo throughput tonnage to 750,630 tons in August, compared to 685,410 tons in the same period a year ago.
