US equities end higher, post weekly gains
US stocks ended Friday in the green, as investors focused on assessing the market outlook in the post–reciprocal tariff phase, even as the trade war continues to cast a shadow over the global economy.
Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.47%, or 206 points, to 44,175. The index recorded weekly gains of 1.35%.
The broader S&P 500 index inched up 0.78%, or 49 points, to 6,389, boosting the weekly gains to 2.43%.
The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.98 %, or 207 points, to 21,450, hitting a fresh record and posting a weekly rise of 3.87%.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.19% to 547 points, raising its weekly gains to 2.11%.
The UK’s FTSE 100 was unchanged at 9,095 points. Germany’s DAX edged down 0.12% to 24,162 points, while France’s CAC 40 rose 0.44% to 7,743 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 climbed 1.85% to 41,820 points, and the broader Topix index jumped 1.2% to an all-time high of 3,024 points. Both indices recorded weekly gains of 2.5% and 2.55%, respectively.
Brent crude futures for October delivery rose 0.24%, or $0.16, to $66.59 a barrel, but fell 4.4% over the week.
US WTI crude futures for September delivery settled at $63.88 a barrel, posting a weekly loss of 5.12%.
As for gold, December futures for the precious metal rose 1.10%, or $37.6, to $3,491.30 an ounce, extending their weekly gains to 2.70%.
