US stocks close lower after 1st Fed meeting under Warsh
US stocks closed lower on Wednesday as Treasury yields rose, with investors reassessing the monetary policy outlook following the first Federal Reserve meeting chaired by Kevin Warsh, which signaled a more hawkish stance on interest rates.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.98%, or 507 points, to 51,492. The S&P 500 declined 1.21%, or 91 points, to 7,420, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.35%, or 354 points, to 26,021.
In Europe, the STOXX Europe 600 index rose 0.52% to 639 points.
The UK's FTSE 100 gained 0.14% to 10,508, while Germany's DAX edged up 0.10% to 24,934. France's CAC 40, however, slipped 0.20% to 8,430.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 advanced 0.72% to 69,902, and the broader Topix index added 0.55% to 4,013.
