US equities end mixed; Dow falls for third session
US stocks ended mixed on Thursday as pressure persisted in the bond market amid concerns that the Federal Reserve could keep monetary policy tighter for longer to curb inflation.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell for a third straight session, shedding 0.31%, or 161 points, to 51,349.
The broader S&P 500 was flat at 7,704 points, while the Nasdaq Composite was little changed at 26,939.
In Europe, the STOXX Europe 600 fell 0.55% to 636.4 points, with most sectors and major bourses trading lower.
Britain’s FTSE 100 lost 0.25% to 10,679 points. Germany’s DAX fell 0.55% to 25,266, and France’s CAC 40 declined 0.52% to 8,081.
Japanese stocks were mixed as trading resumed after a public holiday. The Nikkei 225 rose 0.75% to 65,513 points, while the TOPIX fell 0.4% to 4,075.
In oil markets, November Brent crude futures rose 3.41%, or $3.52, to $106.60 a barrel.
US WTI crude futures for November delivery gained 2.66%, or $2.45, to $94.61 a barrel.
Gold futures for September delivery fell 0.43%, or $18.30, to $4,263.00 an ounce.
