GCC civil aviation body key step toward unified regional system: GACA

Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), said the approval of GCC leaders to establish the GCC Civil Aviation Authority is a strategic milestone reflecting the commitment of member states to unify efforts and develop the region’s civil aviation sector.

In a statement, Al-Duailej explained that the new authority aims to enhance regulatory alignment among GCC countries and unify their position in international aviation events. The authority will also strengthen aviation safety, in addition to supporting sustainability and the competitive strength of the regional aviation sector.

He noted that establishing the authority builds on the long-standing cooperation among GCC states in this vital sector and marks a new phase of joint action toward creating an integrated civil aviation model—ultimately leading to a unified regional aviation ecosystem that meets the requirements of safe, reliable, and sustainable air transport.

The authority will also focus on key objectives, including regulatory harmonization, unified policies, and bringing national legislation closer under a GCC-wide framework. In addition, it will work to improve service quality and passenger rights by streamlining travel procedures and coordinating related initiatives, while supporting infrastructure and investment in airports and navigation systems.

It will also promote the development of Gulf talent through training programs that enhance the region’s competitiveness globally.

Al-Duailej stressed that the establishment of the GCC Civil Aviation Authority will strengthen cooperation among member states in the civil aviation sector and reinforce the region’s position as a global hub in the aviation industry.
