28% of establishments used AI in 2024: GASTAT

Around 27.6% of establishments used artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in carrying out their activities during 2024, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) reported, citing 2024 survey on ICT usage by establishments.

According to the survey findings, the information and communications (ICT) sector topped the list of establishments using AI, with a penetration rate of 52.8%, followed by financial and insurance activities (44.7%), and education (42.1%).

According to GASTAT data, the proportion of establishments with internet access in Saudi Arabia reached 98% in 2024. The transportation and storage sector recorded the highest rate at 99.3%, followed by ICT as well as health and social work at 99.2%, the financial and insurance activities at 99.1%.

The survey findings also showed that 46.8% of establishments used cloud computing technologies by the end of 2024. Meanwhile, 82.2% of establishments used computers, and 43% used fixed-line telephones.

In addition, 63.2% of establishments used an intranet, while 45.1% had a local area network (LAN), and around 20.1% used extranets.
