CITC announces end of corrective period for supply, sale of non-compliant telecom devices

The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) announced the end of the corrective period for the sale and supply of non-compliant communication devices and imposing fines up to SAR 25 million according to the Telecommunications Act as and when detected.

In a statement, CITC warned telecom suppliers against the supply, distribution and sale of devices that violate the specifications approved by the commission, including unlicensed telecom devices and irregular network boosters, in order to avoid the declared penalties.

The deadline lasted for 60 days, during which a number of inspection rounds were conducted in the telecom markets and shops, to confirm the serious impact of the non-compliant devices on the quality of communications.

The violating network boosters cause radio interference that negatively affects mobile communications services, as well as the low level of services among users adjacent to those devices.

CITC provides through its website the devices licensing service which enables telecom device manufacturers and IT suppliers to ensure that their devices conform to technical specifications, before importing them to the Kingdom, or manufacturing them.
