Saudi Arabia’s CMA issues ‘The Market Story’ book to cover 100 years of success

The Capital Market Authority (CMA) released “The Market Story” book, which documents the three phases of Tadawul’s track record from 1926 to 2020.

The book was issued in documentary and photo history editions. The documentary book highlights the stock market’s journey of success, while the other includes pictures, official documents and graphs. 

These documentary efforts adopted a scientific methodology combining historical and descriptive approaches to present several major events. The book was prepared in several steps, such as the collection and revision of documents. It includes hundreds of historical documents and more than 80 interviews with personalities who contributed and participated in the capital market’s journey to success, in addition to several scientific references.

The first phase of this journey witnessed the establishment of national joint-stock companies since 1926 and the spread of securities brokerage offices. The second phase began with the issuance of a royal decree on regulating stock trading through local banks in 1983, as well as forming supervisory committees to develop the Saudi capital market organizationally and technically, in addition to preparing it for the third phase.

During the final phase, the Capital Market Law was issued in 2003, and the CMA was established in 2004. In addition, this phase witnessed several developments that qualified the market for its current leading position among its regional and global peers.
